Bulls Bridge![]() |
If you were to look in the same direction today, you would see Tesco's supermarket! |
Brentford Dock![]() |
The view southwards from what is now new flats, with moorings in the pool. |
Brentford Dock![]() |
The view eastward from what is now new flats. The covered wharf in the background still exists. |
Hanwell Locks![]() |
Looking down the locks. Just out of view on the left is the hospital. I guess the building on the lock side is for the lock keeper. Just visable on the right hand side are the side pounds used for saving water. |
Three Bridges![]() |
Between the main flight, and the last two locks is "Three Bridges", which can be seen behind. Even though it's called Three Bridges, it's a bridge, and an aqueduct over a railway cutting! |
Hanwell Lock![]() |
The second to last lock of the Hanwell Flight. |
Cowley Peachey Junction![]() |
The junction of the Slough Arm at Cowley. This shot is the view looking towards Brentford, the factories behind the railway bridge have now been flattened as well as the railway. |
Slough Arm![]() |
This is the view down the Slough Arm. There is now a BW marina entrace where the boats are moored. |
Cowley Peachey Junction![]() |
Looking towards Uxbridge from the Junction. |
Cassiobury Park Bottom Lock![]() |
The next locks shown in the film are actually the ones at Cassiobury Park. The view is looking downstream from the bottom lock of the pair. It is common practice to use out of sequence locations in films, so it can get confusing if you know the area! |
Cassiobury Park Bottom Lock![]() |
Looking upstream you can just see the bottom gates of the next lock. |
Cassiobury Park Bottom Lock![]() |
The lock house. |
Black Jack's Lock![]() |
The Black Jack's mill is the next location, even though they must have already gone by to get to Cassiobury. There is now a restaurant here, but looks very similar to the film. |
Black Jack's Lock![]() |
This is the towpath bridge over the mill stream. Apart from a lick of white paint the scene looks identical today. |
Boxmoor![]() |
Rose's Lime Juice factory, at Boxmoor, was one of the last users of the canal. The 'barrel run' took about 12 hours from Brentford. I beleive B&Q now use the site. |
Winkwell Swing Bridge![]() |
Winkwell Swing Bridge.
Historic Map, and local information found here |
Dickinsons, Apsley![]() |
Julian of barge Parglena says "I think that the factory is Dickinsons in Apsley. All that is left is the lst building just before the lock The tall building on the skyline is now a retail park and the buildings on the left have gone and become housing." |
Soulbury Three![]() |
Soulbury Locks looking Northward. |
Marsworth Top Lock![]() |
The top lock of the Marsworth flight, at Bulborne. While the boats are shown as going up hill, Birmingham is actually downstream from here! This lock was called "Leg O Mutton" in the film, but as far as I know, there are no locks called that in the UK! |
Marsworth Top Lock![]() |
Looking towards Birmingham. The tring arm enters from the left. |
Wolverton Aqueduct![]() |
Wolverton Aqueduct, just north of Milton Keenes. Thanks to again Julian for this info. |
